About Us

Traditional Healing | Faith-Based Humanitarian Services | Indigenous Knowledge

The Indigenous Tabernacle Council of Kenya (ITCK) is a legally registered organization under the Society Act (Registration Ref. No. 20956/2001), bringing together over 60 indigenous and evangelical churches across Kenya. Established in 2001, ITCK has grown into a prominent faith-based organization (FBO) committed to addressing socio-economic challenges—particularly those stemming from the HIV/AIDS epidemic—through spiritual, social, and economic interventions.

Our Vision

To empower vulnerable communities through faith-led humanitarian support, economic empowerment, and the promotion of indigenous healing practices.

Our Mission

To provide holistic care and sustainable support systems for orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs), women, and marginalized families through education, health interventions, economic empowerment, and spiritual mentorship.

Key Programs & Achievements

1. HIV/AIDS Mitigation & OVC Support

ITCK has initiated 12 community-based support centers, two of which have received funding:

Eastleigh, Nairobi: Funded with Kshs 1.5 million (Phase I) and Kshs 350,000 (Phase II)

Igoji, Meru: Funded with Kshs 350,000

These centers serve over 200 OVCs with feeding programs, income-generating activities (IGAs), psychosocial care, and advocacy services.

2. Economic Empowerment of Women

Our sustainability efforts include supporting:

30 women in Nairobi through small-scale enterprises

15 women in Igoji Meru with livelihood projects

3. Faith-Based Advocacy on HIV/AIDS

In 2003, 24 bishops from across Kenya participated in the 13th ICASA Conference. The aim was to build clergy capacity around sensitive HIV prevention measures and challenge stigmatized perceptions, especially regarding condom use within moral and spiritual contexts.

4. International Representation

In 2006, Executive Secretary Bishop Dr. Stephen Muketha represented Kenyan FBOs at the UNGASS–UNAIDS Conference in New York, sponsored by SIDA. The National AIDS Control Council (NACC) endorsed this representation, further solidifying ITCK’s national influence.

Objectives

Provide education, clothing, food, and psychological support to 200 OVCs

Promote succession planning for orphaned children

Empower communities economically and socially

Strengthen family capacities to care for OVCs

Mobilize faith-based and community responses to social health challenges

Our Role in National Policy

ITCK is a recognized stakeholder in the Monitoring & Evaluation of the Kenya National AIDS Strategic Plan (KNASP). However, we highlight that faith-based mitigation guidelines remain underrepresented in the country’s Vision 2030 development agenda.

Current Reach

5,000+ OVCs served across our affiliated churches and centers

Ongoing collaboration with government and international partners

Integration of indigenous Curing methods for Cancer, rooted in plant-based, traditional remedies and cultural knowledge
